For 25 years, The Sick Children's Trust has run Eckersley House, originally located at St James's University Hospital and currently at Leeds General Infirmary, supporting families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment at Leeds Children's Hospital. Eckersley House was founded by the Eckersley family, following a bequest from Robert Eckersley.

When mum, Anita, became unwell with tummy ache just 23 weeks into her pregnancy she didn’t think she was going into labour. However, within hours, she gave birth to William. Baby William didn’t breathe for 30 minutes although he had a heartbeat, meaning the doctors had to try to resuscitate him. By some miracle, they were able to intubate him and he was transferred to RLCH for treatment.
